Jeepney culture

If I did’t decided to go to Manila and try to write something about ’Guactruck’ while I’m in Bangkok, it should be a superficial text. Trying to search design scene in Philippines, I found this Filipino-Maxican food truck on the intenet. At first sight, I think that the concept of this mobile bistro isn’t new, normal and banal.

But when I saw jeepneys and mobile food stalls on the roadside in Manila , I just got the concept! Absolutly, eating is a culture; and it’s really a good idea to celebrate way of eating that they did, on their own culture. However, in my view, interior and furniture design of this brand don’t original enough as the concept is. I feel, indeed, western lifestyle culture in their design.

Informal pattern city

The another book I took from Philippines such as a souvenir from this country. Though it’s a kind of research or academic book, photographs inside, by Neal Oshima, are beautiful and professionally taken. many of them are provocative and help the reader go easily through the book . In my view, it’s really useful as case study for those who are interesting in informal urban  grown, especially in asian city.

BuISSA28: Herb garden

Herbs are planted in my used to be abandoned garden.

Watering one hour per day in the morning becomes my mission to accomplish in my daily life.

A monograph

I bought this book from Manila. Text below is my short reflexion. Absolutely, it is written and thought in thai as I used to cover for art4d.

          ด้วยรูปเล่มและปก ภาพและเนื้อหาที่ครอบคลุมของโมโนกราฟเล่มที่สอง ที่ถูกตีพิมพ์ออกมาเนื่องในโอกาสที่ Muji มีอายุเข้าหลักเลขสามนำหน้าเล่มนี้ ทำให้คนที่ไม่ใช่แฟนพันธุ์แท้ของสินค้าจากแดนปลาดิบแบรนด์นี้อย่างเรา เลือกที่จะหยิบขึ้นมาอ่านเพื่อทำความเข้าใจกันสักหน่อยว่า ทำไมงานออกแบบของ ‘มูจิ’ ถึงได้น่าสนใจและธุรกิจก็ประสบความสำเร็จควบคู่กันไปด้วยตลอดช่วงสามทศวรรษที่ผ่านมา บทความสั้นๆ จาก Masaaki Kanai ผู้ก่อตั้ง และจากผู้บริหารฝ่ายต่างๆของ ‘มูจิ’ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Kazuko Koike, Naoto Fukasawa, Kenya Hara, Takashi Sugimoto รวมถึงจากนักออกแบบรับเชิญ อย่าง Jasper Morrison, John C. Jay และ Bruce Mau ถูกลำดับและเรียงร้อยกันเข้าจนเป็นรูปเล่ม ส่งผลให้เกิดความเข้าใจถึงความเป็นมา จุดยืนและแนวคิดในการออกแบบด้านต่างๆ แบบที่ไม่ได้เป็นการเล่าประวัติความเป็นมากันแบบตรงๆ หรือตามลำดับเหตุการณ์ที่แบรนด์เติบโตขึ้นจากผลิตภัณฑ์จำนวน 40 ชิ้น มาจนถึง 7,000 ชิ้นในปัจจุบัน แต่มันถูกถ่ายทอดออกมาในรูปแบบของทัศนะผู้เขียน ที่ล้วนมีส่วนผลักดันให้มาเป็น ‘มูจิ’ ในวันนี้ ต้องยอมรับว่าพื้นฐานของแนวความคิดเริ่มต้นที่ได้ถูกวางไว้ตั้งแต่ปี 1980 ในการสร้างผลิตภัณฑ์ของเขาแข็งแรงมาก มันมีประเด็นเรื่องของความยั่งยืนสอดแทรกอยู่ ตั้งแต่คำๆ นี้ยังไม่ได้ถูกใช้กันอย่างฟุ่มเฟือยอย่างทุกวันนี้ แนวคิดในเรื่องสนนราคาของสินค้าที่ไม่แพง เหมาะสมและจับจ่ายกันได้ ถูกเซ็ทไว้เป็นประเด็นต้นๆ  เรื่องของ ‘no-brand’ เรื่องการไม่ตามแทรนด์ ตามกระแส (บริโภคนิยม)  แต่กลับใช้วิธีการลดทอนความฟุ้งเฟ้อและตัดสิ่งประดับตกแต่ง จนเหลือเพียงแก่นของประโยชน์ใช้สอย แบบที่ผู้บริโภคจะพูดว่า ‘เท่านี้ก็เพียงพอแล้ว’ (‘This will do’) ประเด็นเหล่านี้ก็ไม่ได้ทำให้ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ออกมาดูดิบ สมถะและเรียบจนน่าเบื่อเกินไป เป็นเพียงความเรียบง่ายอย่างวัฒนธรรมญี่ปุ่นเท่านั้นเอง แนวความคิดข้างต้นทั้งหมดนี้ถูกนำมาถ่ายทอดและประยุกต์ใช้ในงานออกแบบที่เป็นรูปธรรมโดยมืออาชีพฝ่ายต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นด้านงานออกแบบผลิตภัณฑ์ภายใต้การนำของ Fukasawa ด้านงานกราฟิกและการสื่อสารโดย Hara ตลอดจนงานออกแบบตกแต่งภายในโดย Sugimoto ที่ล้วนถูกสร้างสรรค์ขึ้นบนพื้นฐานเดียวกันทั้งสิ้น ณ วันนี้ ‘มูจิ’ ขยายขอบเขตงานออกแบบจนเลยกันไปถึงงานสถาปัตยกรรม งานศาสตร์และศิลปะเชิงพาณิชย์ในสาขาอื่นอีกด้วย อย่าง ‘Muji House’, ‘Muji Campgrounds’และ ‘Muji Background Music’ ช่วงท้ายเล่ม ปิดท้ายด้วยบทสนทนาที่ถูกบันทึกไว้ตั้งแต่ปี 2009 แสดงให้เห็นถึงวิสัยทัศน์ของผู้บริหารทั้งห้าคน ในการวางแผนที่จะต่อยอดรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิตสไตล์ ‘มูจิ’ กันไปให้ถึงโปรเจ็คต์อย่าง ‘Muji Hotel’ เราว่า กล้าคิดใหญ่ แต่ไปอย่างเรียบง่ายแบบนี้ มันน่าจับตามองเสียจริงๆ

‘Magandang Umaga’ Philippines

This is my first time for Philippines. The reasons to go are simple: take a break, explore the cities as expecting and preparing since month as well as see architectural and design scene in Manila and Cebu.

Posted photos here, taken during my 4 days trip in Manila, may could not describe what exactly the capital of Philippines is. But they really hit my attention. In spite of poverty and corruption problem, I think this city has many assets waiting for exploiting. Supposed that this nation needs the next Superhero! 

Judgement day

29 July 2010-29 April 2012.

Nobody want to listen, to talk and to discuss  for making things better anymore…Our relationship is not strong enough to  overcome those problems which have happenned to test our spirit…Today, it’s finally broken.

Are we the glass of water being half-empty or the one being half-full?

World still turns, sun always rises, life goes on while my being is in blue…

RIP for 1 year and 9 months of my being as well as for those things that have been constructed in and along with the company…

The word ‘apologize’ still reverberates in my mind.

Nobody know

Nobody know that the process of making, precisely pattern cutting, these  recycle bags were made by myself. So it’s ‘craft’ matter somehow.

Somebody don’t know neither that it happened intentionally to made art4d’ booth more lively and creatively at Architect’12 while it was my hard time.

But that’s fine…, whenever someone love them.

It shows somehow my being among neglectors…

Zero Books (04)

It’s so long that I have not  talked about ‘Zero Books’. Many things  happened in and outside the shop; such as, we participate in BIH+BIH event, at Bitec Bangna, between 17-22 April.

‘Container’ product which is finally realized, makes our area more lively and original.

‘Silent holiday’

‘Songran’ holidays finished. It’s a kind of  ‘silent holidays’. I felt a bit of disturb in the early days of my vvacation.

Watering my abandoned garden and keeping ‘Buttefly pea everyday. Peace; and time flied…
